Symptoms of Impending Death in the Terminally Ill

When dealing with a terminally ill individual, there may be various symptoms of impending death that may be evident to the people caring for the person. These symptoms of impending death in the terminally ill have been established as a result of many years of study in the area. Not all terminally ill patients will show all the symptoms of impending death, but they may show many of them. It is important to remember that each person and condition is unique, so the symptoms of impending death in a terminally ill patient may be unique as well. Here, we will share many of the possible symptoms of impending death in the terminally ill person.

One of the first signs of impending death in the terminally ill individual is that they will seem as if they are very tired and lethargic. As the body begins to slow to a halt, the metabolism in the body slows down drastically. Often, the person is able to hear the things that are going on around them, so it is important that you speak to them as if they are fully alert. They may begin to sleep more than usual. They may also start to show less of a response level than that which is normal for them. When this occurs, it is very important that people close to the person plan visiting and other types of activities at times when the person is up to participating.

The second symptom of impending death in the terminally ill individual is that they may start to withdraw away from others, and they may seem as if they do not want to socialize with others. This is one symptom that friends and family members often say that bother them the most. However, the person who exhibits this symptom does not mean any harm, and they may not realize that they are even doing it. There are many reasons why this symptom may become evident in the terminally ill individual. One is that they may be coming to terms with the fact that their life is drawing near to a close, the other is that they may be experiencing fluctuating oxygen supply throughout the body.

The third symptom of impending death in the terminally ill individual is that they may start to show various signs of confusion. This is really a very broad symptom of impending death in the terminally ill individual. The confusion may be as simple as not knowing the day or the time, and it can be as complex as the terminally ill patient expressing the fact that they are able to see people from their past in their presence when they are not really there. It is important that you listen carefully to the person if they start to become confused and explain to them what it is that they are confused about. Try not to undermine the person when doing this, as they may become offended quite quickly.

The fourth symptom of impending death in the terminally ill is the fact that they may start to experience skin that is cold. This is due to the fact that the circulation in the body is not functioning as it should. If the person is experiencing this, and they express the need for blankets, or appear to be cold, you should cover them to ensure that they are as comfortable as possible.

There are many symptoms of impending death in the terminally ill patient. If you still have questions, you can search on the internet for answers. You can also contact a local hospice to ensure that you get the answers that you require.
